The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is recruiting a Researcher

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is recruiting a Researcher. Under the supervision of the Philippine Country Coordinator, the Researcher will conduct dynamic Tree-Crop modelling using ICRAF’s Water, Nutrient and Light Capture in Agroforestry Systems (WaNuLCAS) tool for selected sites in the Philippines under climate change scenarios. The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an autonomous, non-profit international research organization supported by the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR).  ICRAF’s mission is to improve human welfare and enhance environmental resilience in the tropics, through improved agroforestry systems.

BASIC PURPOSE:   Under the supervision of the Philippine Country Coordinator, the Researcher will conduct dynamic Tree-Crop modelling using ICRAF’s Water, Nutrient and Light Capture in Agroforestry Systems (WaNuLCAS) tool for selected sites in the Philippines under climate change scenarios.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, access, gather and validate relevant data for model parameterization and calibration;
  • Conduct scenario modelling using relevant biophysical data including (soils, nutrients, water) under present and future climate scenarios;
  • Preparation of thematic maps and summary data based on model outputs;
  • Provide data and input into publications for international public goods (e.g. journal articles, book chapters);
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Country Coordinator.

Duration:  Initially for 6 months but is renewable

Qualifications:

  • College degree in Mathematics, Agricultural/soil science, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Forestry and related fields. Master’s  degree is an advantage
  • Experience in crop productivity and yield modelling
  • Experience in programming and Stella™  based modelling an advantage
  • Knowledge of analytical statistics and GIS is an advantage
  • Good communication (oral & written) skills
  • Good technical/scientific writing skills is an advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fit to travel and do field work
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently, with minimum supervision
