OML Center Scientific Director, Dr. Rodel Lasco, gave a keynote presentation at the APN (Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research) Side Event “Our Common Future under Climate Change”: Responding to Climate Change by Capacity Building in Asia-Pacific in Paris, France on 9 July 2015.

The presentation, under the session on Developing Capacity through Low Carbon Initiatives, Climate Adaptation and Increased Resilience to Climate Impacts in the Asia-Pacific Region, focused on the case of Typhoon Haiyan that took the lives of more than 6,000 people in the Philippines and caused more than US$ 1 billion worth of damages. Lessons on efforts for improved disaster preparedness were shared in line with the theme and objectives of the interactive dialogue that revolved around capacity-building and low-carbon development. Esteemed speakers who led the dialogue along with Dr. Lasco included Dr. Linda Anne Stevenson of the APN Secretariat, Dr. Saleemul Huq from the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), Dr. Kanayathu C. Koshy representing the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies, Dr. Shuzo Nishioka from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Ms. Shom W.C. Teoh of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) Regional Centre, and Dr. Victor Shinde from the Asian Institute of Technology.
