The Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (K Channel) in cooperation with the National Educators Academy of the Philippines launched the Learning Effectively through Enhanced Pedagogies(LEEP) Training Program at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, Department of Education (DepEd) Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City on 2 April 2014. As a contribution to this endeavor, the OML Center in partnership with the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. conducted on 20 March 2014 a dry-run of a communication module on the Fundamentals of Hazards, Disasters, Weather and Climate that will form part of the Training Program. The module aims to teach the teachers and principals attending the LEEP Training the content (concepts that can be shared with the students), approach to be used so that message can be conveyed to students effectively, and other techniques to enhance learning.

Included in the short program during the launch on April 2 are the following: welcome remarks by the President of K Channel, Ms. Rina Lopez-Bautista; presentation of the LEEP Training program by a K Channel Consultant, Dr. Fe Hidalgo; an audiovisual presentation about LEEP; testimonials on the LEEP Program by the Schools Division Superintendent of Guimaras and Bacolod City, Mr. Victor Fe Garcia and Ms. Gemma Ledesma; inspirational message from the Chairman Emeritus of Lopez Holdings Corporation, Dr. Oscar M. Lopez, and closing remarks by the DepEd Secretary, Br. Armin Luistro FSC. The program was hosted by Ms. Denise Laurel and the OML Center was represented by its Program Manager, Ms. Perlyn Pulhin.

About the LEEP Training Program

LEEP, the K Channel’s newest training program developed by Dr. Hidalgo who is former DepEd OIC Secretary, was designed to ensure that teaching approaches, teaching technologies and teaching environments result in effective learning – where learners are active participants in their own learning and where growth in learning is continuous.

The training is aimed to help teachers gain relevant skills that will update their knowledge and increase their effectiveness in the classrooms, and also to workshop principals in educational leadership and effective differentiated supervision. It also brings together the different stakeholders of education in each community.

The LEEP program aims to train teachers and principals in the application of the new K to 12 curriculum in the classroom while using K Channel materials. With the LEEP training program, schools are provided with a hard drive that has k channel content, such as videos, games, and session guides.
