7th International Conference and Scientific Meeting: Traditional Local Environmental Knowledge and Practices to Address Climate Change Impacts

The Philippines Network of Educators on Environment (PNEE) will sponsor a 3-day International Conference and Scientific Meeting on Environmental Education that will bring together educators, extension workers and practitioners from different sectors in various countries to present and discuss their experience on traditional, local environmental knowledge and practices to address climate change impacts. It will be hosted by Southern Luzon State University in Lucban, Quezon on May 12-14, 2014, in time for the Pahiyas Festival, one of the country’s most colorful festivals and tourist attractions.

Traditional, local environmental knowledge is practiced by communities to adapt to climate change such as intense rainfalls and increases in temperature.  Our initiatives (instruction, research, training/extension and development works) on the following topics can be presented in the conference:

  1. Agriculture (lowland, upland, irrigated, rainfed)
  2. Forestry (protection, biodiversity conservation, utilization)
  3. Agroforestry
  4. Fishery (freshwater and coastal)
  5. Water (lakes and rivers, underground)
  6. Mineral (development and utilization)
  7. Energy (renewable, conservation)
  8. Institutional and policy aspects (local, national and international)
  9. Environmental health, biodiversity conservation, ecotourism, gender-and-environment

Papers and posters can be presented by students, researchers, extension agents, community development workers and faculty members. Representatives from CSOs, communities, local government units and the private sector in the Philippines and in other countries are also welcome to present their experiences related to the theme of the conference.
