Translations and Training Manager

Implement the translation activities emanating from our research and build the capacities of target users to ensure adoption and application of findings

Background

The Translations and Training Manager will implement the translation activities emanating from our internal and external research, as well as build the capacities of target users and stakeholders, to ensure adoption and application of findings into innovative tools, decision support systems, program interventions and other solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

I. Translational

Develop and implement strategies to push the translation of scientific discoveries into changes in human behavior, policies, and institutions to have a broader impact.

  1. Work closely with relevant teams and personnel to:
    • Identify and recommend opportunities for translatable research
    • Identify the use and limitations of different types and sources of information
  2. Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources in order to generate insights for collaborative analysis
  3. Integrate data, concepts, techniques, approaches, tools, perspectives, theories, etc. to understand climate disaster resilience and inform solutions
  4. Synthesize and evaluate data to develop materials and resources that inform and encourage continuities among climate and climate-related sciences, policy and management
  5. Produce translational research and initiatives within the Center and the larger community to increase understanding and utility of the research and innovations of the Center

II. Training/Capacity Building:

Develop, manage and implement opportunities to:

  1. A. Effect transfer by identifying potential end-users of knowledge, technologies, assays and resources developed by the Center and facilitate their application
  2. Develop and provide frameworks, systems and processes that allow exchanges of knowledge among the Center’s experts and with intended users of their research/solutions, to promote mutual learning and a shared sense of utility
  3. Communicate knowledge effectively to policymakers, decision-makers, and other non-scientific audiences to close the “communication gap” between bench and laboratory science and the target publics
  4. Establish and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders for the exchange of data and expertise that help develop climate resilient thinking and decision-making

III. Administrative

  1. Develop policies and processes for translational success
  2. Manage links with technical teams to ensure exchange of inputs and outputs
  3. Develop a system for monitoring and evaluating the sub-unit’s outputs and outcomes toward its continued improvement
  4. Manage staff and budget

Qualifications

  • Education: At least a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Social Science or any related field. Master’s level is an advantage.
  • Experience: At least seven years of relevant experience.
  • With knowledge and understanding of climate change adaptation and disaster risk management
  • Excellent interpersonal/social, time management, planning, coordination, research, and organizational skills
  • Excellent English writing and verbal skills are required.
  • Motivated and flexible, with the ability to work independently (with minimum supervision) but also as part of a small team.
  • Can work under pressure and work simultaneously on numerous tasks and meet deadlines
