OMLC Executive Director participates in Regional Climate Projections Consortium and Data Facility

Ms. Marianne Quebral, Executive Director of OML Center participated in the recent workshop of the Technical Assistance (TA) for Regional Climate Projections Consortium and Data Facility last July 1, 2015 at the Stones Hotel, Bali, Indonesia.

Asian Development Bank organized the inception workshop in order to create venue for the consultants as well as the stakeholders in discussing the TA outputs, work plan, resource allocation, and documentation.

The TA aims to “support the efforts of the pilot countries to better manage climate change risks by (i) providing scientifically sound and decision oriented climate data and projections; and (ii) enhancing their technical capacity to generate, interpret, and apply climate information. “

This is in line with the project’s main objective to address “absence of scientifically credible information and clear interpretation and use” which has been identified to hinder the improvement of the design and implementation of effective climate adaptation and development projects within Asia and the Pacific.

Mr. Jack Katsfey from Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) introduced the projects. After which, representatives from the pilot implementing agencies – Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi dan Geofisika (Indonesia), Thai Meteorological Department (Thailand) and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration took part in the discussion of their country’s needs.

Consultants under the TA and representatives both from international and regional climate centers and research institutes also attended the workshop.
