OML Center Scientist at the ASEAN Application of Science and Technology in Disaster Risk Resilience Water Management Meeting

The Center’s Scientist, Rafaela Jane Delfino, was invited last month to moderate the session on Data Systems at the ASEAN Application of Science and Technology in Disaster Risk Resilience Water Management workshop. Held on April 4 and 5 in Bangkok, the workshop was organized to strengthen concrete collaboration in climate change, weather and water related studies among ASEAN countries, create ASEAN open data portal and promote ASEAN application of Science and Technology in disaster risk resilience. Country delegates, mostly coming from Science and Technology, Planning, and DRRM ministries; representatives of international organizations (UNISDR, ADPC, SEI, UNDP, among others), attended the workshop.

The Center champions resilience as an integrative framework for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management. Under one of its banner projects – Weather, Climate and Ecosystems (WaCE), which is spearheaded by Ms. Delfino, the Center developed the Climate Knowledge Portal for the Philippines, a one-stop shop for climate-related information for decision-making in sectors such as water, agriculture, among others. WaCE Project aims to build resilience by integrating climate information, maintaining ecosystem resilience and holistically prepare, cope and adapt to current and future climate changes.
