OML Center at the 2nd National Conference and Workshop on Environmental Science

The OML Center was one of the major sponsors during the 2nd National Conference and Workshop on Environmental Science held on 25-26 November 2013 in Los Baños, Laguna. This event was hosted by the Philippine Consortium on Environmental Science and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Committee on Environmental Science. The theme of the event is “Harnessing Environmental Science for a Smarter Interdisciplinary Analysis and Adaptive Management of the Environment.”

This event was organized to improve the scientific and policy aspects of environmental science in the Philippines through technical exchange of environmental knowledge about the current and future environmental science tools that are essential for definitive understanding of the changing Philippine environment. It aimed to strengthen the value of environmental science as an interdisciplinary field in analyzing and providing solutions to perennial environmental problems of the country.

Through this conference, relevant analyses necessary for the advancement of both the scientific and policy aspects of the Philippine environment sector were brought to the fore. It focused on the studies under the following research agenda and has helped identify research gaps that pointed to appropriate research direction: Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); Integrated Information Database and Network; Human Health and Environmental Hazards; Biodiversity and Conservation; Best Practices and Development of Green Technology; Land Use, Land Cover and Land Degradation; Climate Change, Variability, Risk and Hazard Assessment; Environment, Resources and Population; and Degradation and Water Resources.

The OML Center had an exhibit booth displaying the OML Center Banner, distributed publications to the participants, and was represented by: Climate Researcher, Ms. Rafaela Jane Delfino; Program Manager, Ms. Perlyn Pulhin and Reseacher-Writer, Dr. Noralene Uy.
