The OML Center joins the Lopez Group of Companies in supporting Earth Hour. Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour is a word-wide grassroots movement for the planet. This movement engages a massive mainstream community on broad range of environmental issues. Started as a just a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns globally. The one-hour event continues to be the key driver of the now larger movement. All over the world, the event is held annually towards the end of March, encouraging individuals, households, communities, government and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for an hour as a symbol of their commitment to the planet.

Last year, Earth Hour was celebrated in March 23, 2013. This year, it is scheduled on Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. during participants’ local time. The theme of Earth Hour 2014 dubbed as Earth Hour Blue is “Use your power to make change a reality.”

Earth Hour, as a symbolic action, does not purport to be an energy/carbon reduction exercise. Therefore, there is no measurement of energy/carbon reduction levels for the hour itself. Participation in Earth Hour symbolises a commitment to change beyond the hour.
