Call for Papers: 11th APRU Research Symposium on Multi-hazards around the Pacific Rim

Abstract submissions for the 11th APRU Research Symposium on Multi-hazards around the Pacific Rim are invited. The Symposium addresses marine, meteorological and geohazards, which are all highly relevant to the archipelagic situation of the Philippines, as well as coastal economies in and around the Pacific.

The three day symposium will be comprised of keynote lectures, contributed papers, and poster presentations, and a technical tour (separate registration). Contributed papers and poster presentations are invited. Young researchers, especially PhD students, are encouraged to submit. Topics addressed by the Symposium include, but are not limited to:

  • Effects of natural hazards on exposed elements
  • Methods and approaches for characterizing and mapping hazards
  • Identifying and quantifying multi-hazard exposure
  • Communities of interest; Sectors of Concern; Elements of Interest with specific emphasis to ecosystems
  • Approaches to building disaster resilience and sustainability
  • Sendai Framework
  • Disaster Resilience and Biodiversity
  • Convergence of knowledge domains: collaborative transdisciplinary approaches to DRRM.

Submission of Abstracts

Those who wish to give an oral presentation are invited to submit a three page extended abstract; for a poster presentation a one page abstract is required. Please send all abstracts to Dr. Benito M. Pacheco at and whether the submission is for an oral or poster presentation (8-9 October) .
